ADULT COUNCIL MEETING
May 5, 2010
Attending the meeting were: Jerry Smith, Peggy Fox, Connie Clarke (Chair and Health Ministry), Susan Moreton (LCS/Member Care), Pat Douglass (Saints Alive), Lamons Warren (Library), Doug Nordby (Singles).
Connie opened with a devotional from James 1:2 and a prayer.
Campus Signs – Photos were provided and reviewed of all the different signage around campus. Trustees are looking at making them all uniform and more visitor friendly. It was also noted that the bulletin boards are in need of maintenance.
Space/Equipment Needs – The badly needed addition of DVD/Powerpoint equipment in the Asbury Conference room has finally been approved. The Sunday School class that meets in the Library is very crowded and needs a larger space. The Singles group is almost too large to keep meeting in Doug’s home. It would be nice to have a “living room” style space for them to meet in. Perhaps this space could be shared with the idea of a “Man Cave”. It is the Council’s opinion that the Annex H (previously used by the dry cleaners) is desperately needed to help with overcrowding rather than for storage. Each area of the Adult Ministry is asked to assess their individual needs and submit them to Connie. She will prepare a proposal for Church Council. We would also like to request that Adult Council have a representative on the Space Usage Task Force.
Connecting New & Old Members – There is still concern that many members are not getting plugged into a small group. It seems that personal invitations work best and home settings seem to be received better than church rooms. The Divine Dinners are a good tool for getting people involved.
Library – Continues to do well. Lamons would love to have a volunteer “Shelf-Reader” come in every couple weeks to look over the shelves and put books back in order, if needed. Also needed is a Children’s Librarian as the children’s section is large and Lamons just doesn’t have the time to work with it.
Singles – They are averaging 20 on Sunday nights which is a bit crowded for Doug’s house but they are making it work. During the summer they will be having “Singles for Supper”.
Blood Mobile - A coordinator is still needed to take over for Jane. It was suggested that we might consider offering it twice a year or taking a year off.
Welcome Center – More volunteers are needed to man the welcome center on Sunday mornings. It was also suggested that the pastors remind the congregation to be more intentional about greeting on Sunday mornings.
Scurry – The Shamrock Scurry brought in $6500! All but $1600 went to Missions. The $1600 was left in the Scurry account for start-up money for next year’s Scurry.
Due to continued low attendance at the Adult Council meetings, we are exploring other meeting days, times and/or locations. Please let us know if you have any suggestions.
The next meeting is September 1. Have a great summer and thanks for all you do to further His kingdom.
